August's cd reviews (Missy,Faith and James Blunt)

Sorry for the lack of updates.Y’all know I’ve got a life out there, too, and that life doesn’t allow me to listen to many cds recently.Or maybe I’m just plain lazy.Anyway,I’m back with my reviews of 3 new albums.

Faith Hill- Fireflies

Faith Hill’s back. And this time she can’t excite me much because Cry didn’t do that well back then. This album’s got everything you can expect of.Nice country pop vibe:Check.Cheesy lyrics:Check (For example:”I believe in Peter Pan and fireflies? You should hear the whole song! ;-) A collaboration with her hubby Tim McGraw: Check. However, what this album really lacks is catchy, decent, memorable tunes that are strong enough to get stuck in your head for a period of time. Most of the songs just passed me by, I don’t even remember how some of them sounded like.I thought she could do better for a comeback after 3 years.Pity.

Rating: 2,5/5 stars
Songs I recommend: Sunshine and Summertime, Mississippi Girl,Like We Never Loved Before,We’ve Got Nothing But Love To Prove,Wish For You.

Missy Elliott - The Cookbook

Well, I wanted this one to be real good. The first single Lose Control, really kicks ass and it’s one hell of an upbeat song. But the rest of the album isn’t as good.Even Timbaland-produced songs just sounded okay. The other producers didn’t seem to do a good job.Missy didn’t seem to try her best, yeah she still talks about dirty stuff, still has some creative funny rhymes (like ‘forget it like the world forgets Sisquo’) , she even sings in 2 songs, still gets nice collaborators, but this time she’s kinda of losing it.The Neptunes-produced track On & On is one of the very few spotlights, real slick song.A huge disappointment, considered she’s the best female rapper out there.

Rating: 2/5 stars
Songs I recommend:Partytime,Joy,Lose Control,On & On,My Man.

James Blunt – Back To Bedlam [UK]

I checked out this album mainly because of curiousity. His single You’re Beautiful is a really nice touching song, but I was kinda not interested in listening to the whole album. Then I found out this album topped the UK album chart,so I think this dude must have something more to offer.I did what I did,and it turned out pleasantly nice. That’s my kind of music.Breezy guitars and twinkling pianos, strange vocals singing few words that can touch your heart well. You won’t remember some of the tracks a few months later, but it will be a pleasure for you if you have time to listen back sometimes. However, this album will do its best if you’re in a particular mood, trying to listen to it in rainy days, sleepless nights, lonely morning, can affect you in a different way.Nice stuff across the pond,I say.Hope it will make it way to US soon.

Rating: 3/5 stars
Songs I recommend: You’re Beautiful, High, Wisemen, Goodbye My Lover, No Bravery.

Soon to come: review of Craig David's latest album The Story Goes and the much-anticipated sophomore album of Kanye West-Late Registration.Goodies on the way! Be sure to get back soon for the scoop.

PS: I'll be glad if you can leave a comment to let me know what you think 'bout my blog,so that I can see what I can do to improve it.Thanks.Peace out!
