Picks Of The Week #14

Lyrics Of The Week

Yellowcard’s been one of my favorite bands (see, I’m a member of their online fan community), and this is the first song that introduced me to them. The lyrics of this song just touched me in so many ways with its bittersweet honesty.

Ocean Avenue
Yellowcard

There's a place off Ocean Avenue,
Where I used to sit and talk with you,
We were both 16 and it felt so right,
Sleeping all day, staying up all night,
Staying up all night.

There's a place on the corner of Cherry Street,
We would walk on the beach in our bare feet,
We were both 18, and it felt so right,
Sleeping all day, staying up all night,
Staying up all night.

If I could find you now
Things would get better,
We could leave this town,
And run forever,
Let your waves crash down on me
And take me away, yeah, yeah.

There's a piece of you that's here with me,
It's everywhere I go, it's everything I see
When I sleep, I dream and it gets me by,
I can make believe that you're here tonight,
That you're here tonight.

If I could find you now,
Things would get better.
We could leave this town,
And run forever
I know somewhere, somehow, we'll be together
Let your waves crash down on me,
And take me away, yeah

I remember the look in your eyes,
When I told you that this was goodbye
You were begging me not tonight,
Not here, not now.
We're looking up at the same night sky
Keep pretending the sun will not rise
We'll be together for one more night,
Somewhere, somehow.

If I could find you now,
Things would get better.
We could leave this town,
And run forever.
I know somewhere, somehow we'll be together.
Let your waves crash down on me,
And take me away, yeah, yeah.

Corinne Bailey Rae/ Put Your Records On

This songtress has been on every critic’s mouth recently, they have all been hyping her up as the UK’s next big thing. Good news is, they’re actually quite right. This astonishing debut single showcases a fresh, young, soulful vocalist with beautiful, breezy, feel-good melodies that leave you asking for more. Perfect song for a Sunday morning. This one I strongly recommended.

Flashback

Kings Of Convenience/ Misread

Another Sunday morning song. Delicate acoustic guitar and piano tunes played along with soothing, Simon & Garfunkel-esque vocals. The kind of song I always fall for.

Music Video Of The Week

Pink/ Stupid Girls

Everyone should have watched this by now. If you haven’t, shame on you! You missed a bunch of funny, in-your-face spoofs of Lindsay Lohan’s driving skills, Jessica Simpson’s carwash, Paris Hilton’s night vision X-rated tape, and way more making fun of stupid girls. Dave Meyers’s always at his best when it comes to stuff like this. The wildest Pink video ever!
