Picks Of The Week #17

First, let me clear things up. I hope no one fell for my fake news headlines yesterday. They were intended as an Aprils Fool practical joke. So if you did believe it (screw you!), you can go 'phew!' now. They're all made up crap, none of them is true (or maybe...who knows).

Lyrics Of The Week

Beautiful song. Heartfelt lyrics. Sometimes I do wonder where my sanctuary is to hide away. This song's like a big warm hug helping you get through neverending nights.

Always On Your Side
Sheryl Crow & Sting

My yesterdays are all boxed up and neatly put away
But every now and then you come to mind
Cause you were always waiting to be picked to play the game
But when your name was called, you found a place to hide
When you knew that I was always on your side

Well everything was easy then, so sweet and innocent
But your demons and your angels reappeared
Leavin' all the traces of the man you thought you'd be
Leavin' me with no place left to go from here
Leavin' me so many questions all these years

But is there someplace far away, someplace where all is clear
Easy to start over with the ones you hold so dear
Or are you left to wonder, all alone, eternally
This isn't how it's really meant to be
No it isn't how it's really meant to be

Well they say that love is in the air, but never is it clear,
How to pull it close and make it stay
Butterflies are free to fly, and so they fly away
And I'm left to carry on and wonder why
Even through it all, I'm always on your side

But is there someplace far away, someplace where all is clear
Easy to start over with the ones you hold so dear
Or are we left to wonder, all alone, eternally
But is this how it's really meant to be
No is it how it's really meant to be

Well if they say that love is in the air, never is it clear
How to pull it close and make it stay
If butterflies are free to fly, why do they fly away
Leavin' me to carry on and wonder why
Was it you that kept me wondering through this life
When you know that I was always on your side

Prince/ Black Sweat

Super squeaky song! Annoying screeches in the loop as the background music. Prince's squeaky vocals get in your ears from start to finish, telling you to 'work it to the black sweat'. Somehow all of this combined makes one upbeat, funky, weirdly catchy, Outkasty song.

Flashback

Frou Frou/ Let Go

Recently, I've been listening to chillout electronica quite a lot, and this is one of the songs I came across. Featured in the 2004 soundtrack for 'Garden State', the song is just deeply exquisite with breathy vocals and groovy, relaxing tunes. If you haven't heard it yet, I highly recommend it.

Music Video Of The Week

Coldplay/ The Hardest Part

New music video from Coldplay. Directed by Mary Wigmore, the video used a clip from a short-lived 80s program "Attitudes" on the Lifetime Network, and had the band digitally inserted. It featured some what-the-???? aerobics acts with two contestants who have a quite big generation gap. Check it out and you'll know what I mean. Although the video completely, utterly doesn't go with the song at all (the song's mood is supposed to be...moody when the video's actually trying to be comedic), it's still fun and a bit freaky to watch. The great thing is, I have it attached to my post, so you can watch it right here on my blog! Woohoo!
