Picks Of The Week #18

Lyrics Of The Week

First, props to Mary J. Blige for giving a real strong, touching and soulful cover of the U2 classic song. Secondly, props to Bono the Activist for writing such captivating, thoughtful lyrics like this.

One
Mary J. Blige feat. U2

Is it getting better
Or do you feel the same?
Will it make it easier on you now?
You got someone to blame

You say one love, one life (one life)
It's one need in the night
One love (one love), get to share it
Leaves you darling, if you don't care for it

Did I disappoint you?
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth?
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without

Well it's too late, tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We're one, but we're not the same
We get to carry each other
Carry each other
One...

Have you come here for forgiveness?
Have you come to raise the dead?
Have you come here to play Jesus?
To the lepers in your head

Well, did I ask too much, more than a lot?
You gave me nothing, now it's all I got
We're one, but we're not the same
Well, we hurt each other
Then we do it again

You say
Love is a temple
Love is a higher law
Love is a temple
Love is the higher law
You ask me to enter
Well then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on
To what you got
When all you got is hurt

One love
One blood
One life
You got to do what you should
One life
With each other
Sisters and my
Brothers
One life
But we're not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other

One...
One love

Jewel/ Again And Again

Jewel's back after the not-so-succesful reinvention of 0304, and in this new single she returns to her roots, singing that kind of sweet, cute, folky pop she does best with her sugar-coated, innocent vocals. The song's catchy, although it might not be as good as her previous singles, it's still worth checking out.

Flashback

Telepopmusik/ Breathe

As I told you before, recently I've regained my newfound interest in electronic music, especially the kind of frosty, deep, icy, chillout one. This is just one of the songs that turned my head around. Totally appropriate for listening while gazing out the window, looking at the rain heavily fall down (which is what I've been doing since it's been raining a lot lately). And then you can just breathe with the song, breathe with the breathy vocals. Quite a nice way to kill time, huh.

Music Video Of The Week

Gorillaz/ El Manana

When this phenomenal virtual band releases a new video, you know there's gonna be some big-budget, awesome animated effects, which is no exception to this one. It's almost like a real short film. Actually, the video's quite different from the previous ones, no hip-shaking, no spooky Shaun Ryder head, no kid choirs, and it was presented in widescreen format. You've got more shots of the floating windmill island of Noodle, then suddenly all these helicopters came. Well, not gonna spoil it for y'all, but the ending's quite questionable. Watch it right below.
