Picks Of The Week #19

Lyrics Of The Week

Springtime. Raindrops just keep falling. This song's lyrics somehow perfectly depicts the everchanging, senseless teenage angst inside every young frustrated soul.

Only Happy When It Rains
Garbage

I'm only happy when it rains
I'm only happy when it's complicated
And though I know you can't appreciate it
I'm only happy when it rains

You know I love it when the news is bad
And why it feels so good to feel so sad
I'm only happy when it rains

Pour your misery down, pour your misery down on me
Pour your misery down, pour your misery down on me

I'm only happy when it rains
I feel good when things are going wrong
I only listen to the sad, sad songs
I'm only happy when it rains

I only smile in the dark
My only comfort is the night gone black
I didn't accidentally tell you that
I'm only happy when it rains

You'll get the message by the time I'm through
When I complain about me and you
I'm only happy when it rains

Pour your misery down (Pour your misery down)
Pour your misery down on me (Pour your misery down)
Pour your misery down (Pour your misery down)
Pour your misery down on me (Pour your misery down)
Pour your misery down (Pour your misery down)
Pour your misery down on me (Pour your misery down)
Pour your misery down

You can keep me company
As long as you don't care

I'm only happy when it rains
You wanna hear about my new obsession?
I'm riding high upon a deep depression
I'm only happy when it rains (Pour some misery down on me)

I'm only happy when it rains (Pour some misery down on me)
I'm only happy when it rains (Pour some misery down on me)
I'm only happy when it rains (Pour some misery down on me)
I'm only happy when it rains (Pour some misery down on me).

Juanes/ La Camisa Negra

The first Latin song I like since Shakira's 'La Tortura'. As usual, I don't have the faintest idea what the hell he was singing (shame on me), but this acoustic-guitar-driven song's just so damn catchy. Listening to the guitar alone is worth it. A kind of slow jams to dance to.

Flashback

Finley Quaye feat. Beth Orton/ Dice

The first time I heard this song was on a season one episode of The O.C. (yes, I watch it, as a guilty pleasure). The song starts off with some decent guitar intro, then Finley's voice whispers the verse in your ears until Beth arrives to join him in sweet harmony for the chorus. There's a little tinge of electronica near the end of the song. In conclusion, heartwarming, cozy, stripped-down, feel-good ear candy.

Music Video Of The Week

Franz Ferdinand/ L. Wells

How can watching a simple, black-and-white indie music video be so much fun? We've got no sight of the band here, just a cute girl (presumably Lindsey Wells, whom the song is dedicated to) hanging around Glasgow streets. It's like a tourism tv commercial, only more interesting, and accompanied with great music. Check it out, highly recommended!

For those who prefer watching it online, here's the link to download the Quicktime file.
