Picks Of The Week #32

Lyrics Of The Week

I just have to post the lyrics after reading this interesting piece of gossip. So rumor has it that at the time when Beyonce was recording her second album, Jay Z began to get too attached to Rihanna. So pissed off by that, she wrote this song as a hidden message to her rival and Jay Z. This marked the first time she said a foul word ('sh1t') in a song. It could be all made up crap, I know, but then again the 'half-million' reference was quite clear. Click here if you want to read all the juicy details. All I can say is that, B, she did just score a glorious number one, this new single'd better work.

Ring The Alarm
Beyoncé

Ring the alarm
I've been doin' this too long
But I'll be damned if I see another chick on your arm

Won't you ring the alarm
I've been doin' this too long
But I'll be damned if I see another chick on your arm

[chorus]
She gon' be rocking chinchilla coats
if I let you go
In the house up the coast
if I let you go
She gon' take everything I own
if I let you go

I can't let you go
Damn if I let you go

She gon' rock the VVS stones
if I let you go
In the 'Bach or the Rolls
if I let you go
She gon' pocket everything I don't
if I let you go

I can't let you go
Damn if I let you go
[chorus]

Tell me how should I feel
When I know what I know
And my female intuition
Telling me you a dog
People told me bout the flames
I couldn't see through the smoke
When I need answers, accusations
What you mean you gone choke?

Oh. You can't stay you gotta go,
And your other chick spending your do'
This is taking a toll
The way the story unfolds
Not the picture perfect movie everyone would assume

[chorus]

Ring the alarm
I've been doin' this too long
But I'll be damned if I see another chick on your arm

Won't you ring the alarm
I've been doin' this too long
But I'll be damned if I see another chick on your arm

Tell me how should I feel
When you made me belong
And the thought of you just touching her
Is what I hate most
I don't want you but I want it and I can't let it go
To know you give it to her like you gave it to me, come on

She's sold half a million - Gold
She don't love [you] - that sh1t I know
I done put in a call
Time to ring the alarm
Cause you ain't never seen a fire like the one I'm gone cause

She gon' be rocking chinchilla coats
if I let you go
In the house up the coast
if I let you go
She gon' take everything I own
if I let you go

I can't let you go
Damn if I let you go

She gon' rock the VVS stones
if I let you go
In the 'Bach or the Rolls
if I let you go
She gon' pocket everything I don't
if I let you go

I can't let you go
Damn if I let you go

How can you look at me
And not see all the things that I kept only just for you
Why would you risk it baby, is that the price I done paid
Cause this is my show and I won't let you go
All its been paid for, and it's mine
How could you look at me
And not see all the things

She gon' be rocking chinchilla coats
if I let you go
In the house up the coast
if I let you go
She gon' take everything I own
if I let you go

I can't let you go
Damn if I let you go

She gon' rock the VVS stones
if I let you go
In the 'Bach or the Rolls
if I let you go
She gon' pocket everything I don't
if I let you go

I can't let you go
Damn if I let you go

Update: Forget what I told you. The rumor is untrue. What she actually sings is:
"She sold half-a-million, Gold/She don't love you, that sh*t I know". Sorry, B.

Toby Lightman/ Holding Me Down

Toby Lightman's debut single 'Devils And Angels' was a catchy pop song, but then her album didn't do as well as it was expected, so I figured I'd never hear more of this talented singer/ songwriter. All of a sudden, her sophomore album 'Bird On A Wire' was released a couple of weeks ago, with new single 'Holding Me Down' paving the way. And this song's still quite good, with tuneful hooks. Toby proved she still can sing with her soulful, smoky voice. I know this song's a bit overlooked now, with all these pop giants flooding new albums every week, so I recommend you to check this out, if you like a good singer/songwriting pop song.

Flashback

Belle & Sebastian/ Ease Your Feet In The Sea

I prefer Belle & Sebastian at their quieter, more subtle moments to when they try to funk out. And this is just one of those great songs that suggest the perfect moment to listen right at the title. So yeah, ease your feet in the sea, feel the fresh air while the sweet, beautiful sounds coming out of the earbuds, soothing your spirit. Grab a hold of the summer when it still lasts.

Music Video Of The Week

Thom Yorke/ Harrowdown Hill

I'm not a fan of Yorke's solo music, that I admit. But this video is just fantastic. Beautiful landscape shots and tricky visual effects. He sure knows hot to visualize a song. It's hard to describe, just watch it for yourself.
