Regina Spektor: New Music Video (Sorta) & Other Rarities

Hi everyone! Um, long time no see?
Okay, yesterday I stopped by the blog and realized it was a mistake to leave a Christmas post on top because it made the whole blog look incredibly outdated, so I decided it's time to come back from my overextended break. At first, the slacker in me told me to take my time and relax for the holidays, but then the finals came right after, and seeing how slow the music scene seems to be in January, I just put all on hold to concentrate on my study. Now that the semester is officially over, I've got plenty of spare time so yeah, let's get up and get back to it!

.born like sisters to this world.

Regina Spektor. Whom I completely adore. But never made a post about her before. Which didn't seem right, since I rank her way up there with her predecessors like Tori Amos, Fiona Apple or Aimee Mann. So this is a long overdue post, and here's the motivation:
Last week, I bumped into this never-before-seen Regina music video while doing my regular websurfing. Really, it just came out of nowhere, unexpected. So I googled in hope of some information. Okay, so apparently, in 2006, Regina shot 3 consecutive music videos for Fidelity, On The Radio, and Samson, to be promoted as a web video trilogy for 'Begin To Hope' then. However, for unknown reasons, only 'Samson' (the one with the origami) got a proper release. My guess is that maybe the label wasn't happy with the results, so they commissioned reshoots? Anyways, I've uploaded that unseen version of 'On The Radio', directed by Matt Lenski. I highly recommend watching it. Regina's trip to the Asher's chocolate factory. Visually lovely and delicious. It's full of those blink-and-you-miss-it moments, and Regina's charisma is on full display here. Well, there's the obvious plug, but hey, it works for me, makes me want to rush out and buy me some of that fine chocolate. A gold marketing opportunity gone amiss etc. With all the negativity and tragic news surrounding the media lately, never do those lyrics make more sense to me. "You laugh until you cry. You cry until you laugh. And everyone must breathe until their dying breath"...Watch it, it's worth your 3 minutes.

And here are some awesome Regina rarities to go with the video. Just grab them all.

Regina Spektor - Fidelity (Live)
Regina Spektor - Ghost Of Corporate Future (Live)

Two superb live recordings from her Live In California 2006 EP. Someday, I must get the chance to experience her music live. Someday.

Regina Spektor - Love Profusion (Madonna Cover - Live)

Regina covered Madonna!!! Odd choice of song, but pay attention to the altered lyrics of the chorus, and you'll see why...

Sondre Lerche & Regina Spektor - Hell No
(Dan In Real Life OST)

Regina collaborating with Sondre Lerche. They sound lovely together.

Regina Spektor - Fidelity (Morgan Page Remix)

Last but not least, an unreleased remix. The idea of Regina's voice running through some sorta filters never occured to me before, so it was to my surprise that this remix doesn't strip off her essence and charm, in fact it's quite lush and likeable. A very nice alternative to the original. But I know it doesn't exactly appeal to her fanbase.

Enjoy, and I hope these will make up for my absence in the past weeks.
